FAITHFUL TO GOD’S HOUSE

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:24-25).

In the letter to the Hebrews, the writer encourages us to continue genuine fellowship with each other. The Spirit of God tells us to spend time pondering how we might cause people to love others and to desire to do good deeds. We must be deliberate in planning to encourage one another. You are in relationship with someone who could benefit from your relationship and walk with Jesus Christ. Spur them on toward helping others and to demonstrate the love of Jesus to those in their sphere of influence. Encourage them in their walk with the Lord Jesus.  An encouraging word and a genuine affirmation might be what it takes to strengthen them.

As His loyal followers, we are admonished to not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but to encourage one another. In this text, we are told to meet regularly so that we are available for encouragement. We are not to develop the habit of missing regularly-scheduled services. Paul indicates here that things (life) will become more difficult as the “Day” approaches. He speaks of the Day of the Lord which is the culmination of all things. He instructs us of our responsibilities toward each other because this Day will bring great stress upon all who live on the earth.

Especially during times when the other leaders and I travel, preaching the gospel internationally to the leaders of churches and ministries, I need you to be faithful to this house and to practice encouraging those who need you. We all need each other, and you can be an encouragement just by your presence. Know that as a vital part of the body, each member is necessary to have a healthy, functioning body.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you, and may He be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace  (Numbers 6:24-26).
